Dhaka’s rooftops are some of the hardest places to grow anything: full sun, hot concrete, strong wind and monsoon downpours that flood pots in minutes. We look after rooftop and balcony gardens for flats, houses and offices — pruning, repotting, feeding, fixing drainage and keeping pests in check.
On the roof this month: clearing outlets before heavy rain, lifting pots onto feet and shading young plants from the afternoon sun.

What goes wrong up on the roof
Most rooftop gardens we are called to are not neglected — they are over-loved. Too much water, too much fertiliser, pots sitting in their own puddles. These are the problems we see most, and how we deal with them.
WATERLOGGING
Pots that never drain
Blocked holes and saucers full of water rot roots and breed mosquitoes. We clear holes, add drainage layers and lift pots on feet.
HEAT STRESS
Leaves scorching in April
We move sensitive plants to shade, add mulch to cool the soil and set up shade net where it is needed.
TIRED SOIL
Soil that has turned to dust
Old potting mix shrinks and repels water. We refresh it with compost, cocopeat and garden soil.
ROOT-BOUND
Plants too big for their pots
Mango, lemon and guava in drums need root pruning or a bigger container every one to two years.
PESTS
Mealybug, aphids and scale
We catch them early, wash them off, and use neem-based sprays before anything stronger.

We check planter placement and outlets and tell you plainly if waterproofing needs a specialist.
A rooftop visit, step by step
What happens during a plant health visit
Walk-round and notes. We check every pot for drainage, pests, root health and sun exposure, and note anything that needs your decision.
Prune and clean. Dead leaves, spent flowers and weak growth come off; pots and trays are cleaned.
Soil and feed. Top-ups of fresh mix where soil has sunk, and feed suited to the plant — flowering, fruiting or foliage.
Drainage and position. Holes cleared, pot feet added, plants moved to the right light for the season.
Pest treatment. Gentle treatment first; we explain anything stronger before using it.
Watering plan. A short, written routine for you or your staff until the next visit.
A typical visit for up to 25 pots takes two people about three hours. Starting price ৳2,000, soil and pots at cost.
Plants we look after most on Dhaka rooftops
Fruit: lemon, guava, mango, pomegranate, dragon fruit, papaya, chilli. Flowers: rose, bougainvillea, hibiscus, jasmine, marigold, periwinkle, ixora. Foliage: money plant, snake plant, areca and fishtail palms, crotons, ferns. Vegetables: tomato, brinjal, lal shak, pui shak, bottle gourd on trellis. If it grows in a pot in Dhaka, our crews have probably met it.
